Research and Scholarship Congratulations to our nurses who have received funding for their research. We recognize your achievement! We also recognize nurses who have acted as site Principal Investigators for funded studies and thus have facilitated the conduct of nursing research with our veterans. All of the studies listed below aim to enhance our care of veterans and their families. This year, we also congratulate PVAMC nurses who have received awards for their professional, academic, and research achievements.

Grants Awarded to PVAMC Nurses during the Last Year Parkinson’s Disease Research, Education, and Clinical Center Pilot Project Funding: Awarded to Nina Chychula, PhD, RN (Principal Investigator), Cecilia Sciamanna (Co-Investigator), Rebecca Martine, RN, MSN (Co-Investigator) —“The Use of Tai Chi in Parkinson’s Rehabilitation on Movement, Mood, and Quality of Life in Parkinson’s Patients.”

Nursing Honors and Awards (for Academic, Professional and Research Achievements) Many of our nurses have recently received prestigious awards for their academic, professional, and research achievements. Lisette Bunting-Perry, RN, MScN, Doctoral Candidate at Penn School of Nursing, received the 2006 Writing Excellence Award from the journal, Neuroscience Nursing, for her groundbreaking article on palliative care in Parkinson’s disease.  Palliative care in Parkinson's disease: implications for neuroscience nursing. : An article from: Journal of Neuroscience Nursing

International Outreach PADRECC nurses are contributing to the advancement of neuroscience nursing and research internationally. On June 22, 2006, Lisette Bunting-Perry, RN, MSN and Rebecca Martine, RN, MSN hosted visitors from Korea’s Chonnam National University. They shared their expertise in neuroscience nursing and described the clinical care and research program at the PADRECC. They have hosted Korean visitors for several years now, at the request of Penn Nursing.
